The Senior Project

Essential Question:

How can my project partner and I create a meaningful short film in the world of skiing?

My Ski Movie

I created this ski movie to capture the exhilarating experience of skiing in the mountains and answer the essential question of “How can I create a meaningful short film in the world of skiing?” The film showcases the thrills of skiing out west in Colorado, as well as the beauty of the natural environment. Despite struggling with the editing process, I persevered and ultimately produced a mostly visually appealing and interesting ski movie. The film features a variety of shots, including sweeping vistas of the mountain landscape and close-ups of Gavin and I performing jumps and skiing steeps all across Colorado. Through the use of music and sound effects, Gavin and I added a sense of energy and excitement drawing the viewer into the world of skiing. The only area where I feel the film fell short was in the filming and editing areas. Beginning this project I had a much more creative focus for the final product, but between the file corruption issues and the editing issues, this was simply not plausible. For this reason, I would argue that our essential question was not answered but only emphasized, instead showing how hard it is to create a meaningful short film in the world of skiing.

As a high school student, I have a unique perspective on the sport and the culture surrounding it. My film represents a fresh original and budgeted contribution to the genre of ski movies and is sure to resonate with audiences who share my passion for skiing and the great outdoors. Alongside those who are already involved in the action sports community, I hope that individuals who have never skied before will also find our film interesting. While I may have faced challenges during the editing process, the end result is a testament to my determination and ability to persevere. I never made excuses for not doing my work and never allowed myself to simply “not feel like working” once throughout the production of the film.
